Personal Training Studio

For many people who have dedicated their lives to health and wellness, opening their own personal training studio would be the dream of a lifetime. However, it takes much more than simply desire and dedication to establish any type of business. To make it work, you need to be prepared for entrepreneurship. Here are just a few of the tips that will help you get started:
  • Promoting You
Your success as the owner of a personal training studio will largely depend on promoting your experience and expertise. You may open a studio on a prime piece of real estate; but, if you don't have the reputation to back it, you will still have trouble bringing in the clients and building your business.

You are your best advertisement. In essence, you must practice what you preach. You must exhibit the epitome of health and wellness to your future clients. Then, advertise your business.
  • Equipment Realist
When you first open your personal training studio, don't make the mistake of buying too much equipment.  Start out with the basics.  Then, grow with your clientele.  As your studio becomes more popular, you can always buy more exercise equipment.  Naturally, you will want to think big and successful, in order to grow.  But, you also need to be a realist, and don’t over-extend yourself in the beginning.
  • Make Good Use of Your Time
If your personal training studio is to be successful, you need to make good use of your time. It is not a good idea to offer hourly personalized training to one client. Instead, your business will do better, if you offer small group training. You will ultimately make more money with sessions including 4-6 clients.

The group will still be small enough to provide some one-on-one coaching and encouragement. But, you are not limiting your clientele by blocking out an entire hour for one person. If you are compelled to train on an individual basis, consider half hour blocks of time or meeting with them after regular business hours. Of course, you'll want to charge accordingly.
  • Concentrate on Your Business
If you really enjoy working with the clients and that personal interaction, opening your own personal training studio may not really be what you want. As the boss, you will need to concentrate more on your business and less on your clients. You want to hire other personal trainers to actually work on the floor.

Your job will be to market yourself and the business. You are the delegator, motivator, and salesmen, when it comes to your enterprise. You can still develop a trusting relationship with your clientele. But, you are the boss, not the trainer.
  • Finances
One of the biggest concerns of a business venture is the finances. Naturally, you will have to consider how you are going to pay the personal trainers on your floor. You want to pay them enough, so they won't go work for the competition. But, you don't want to overpay them. You are in the business of helping people get healthier. However, you won't be able to keep the doors open, if you can't make a decent profit. As your business grows, and your trainers gain experience, you can always give them raises. You will need to figure out how you're going to pay them. Will your employees receive an hourly wage, a commission, bonuses, or a combination of all three?
  • Payment Plan
Do not get into the business of having clients owe for your services. Many businesses refuse to take checks anymore. If they bounce, you don't get your money and you will likely be stuck with banking fees. Some entrepreneurial gurus suggest using all the electronic funds transfer only. Then, you never have to worry about cash on the premises.

You may decide it is okay to take cash or credit cards for the convenience of your customers. Nevertheless, make sure to get paid upfront for services rendered.

You will also want to consider offering package deals. Not only will your clients get a discount for committing to a certain number of sessions, you will be assured of a steadier income.
  • Go the Extra Mile
Finally, if you want to ensure the success of your personal training studio, you will have to go the extra mile. Give your clientele what they are paying for and more. Give them a reason to keep coming back. Make sure they feel like they are getting their money's worth. Find out what the competition is doing. Then, offer that and something extra.

Opening your own personal training studio may be a dream come true.  But, it will be up to you to make sure that the dream doesn’t turn into a nightmare. You need to make your business indispensible to your clientele, so they will keep coming back and also recommend your establishment to others.  Then, you can truly measure your success.
